Memories of Worcester

My father was a grocer with a shop in Stourport. Every Wednesday afternoon the shop was closed and he took my mother shopping to Worcester. In the school holidays I was also taken. His car was an Austin Saloon similar to the one in the photograph and the busy street is exactly as I remembered.

Walked past this park every day on my way to secondary school between September 1974 and June 1979. I now love to walk round it with my grandson who is fascinated by the ducks and loves the play area.

I was born at an address on Bromwich Road (home birth 1955) and shortly after my family moved to Old Malvern Road in Powick..I attended Powick School.. then Christopher Whitehead Girl's School. The photo of the Crown took me back to the late '70's/early '80's. I was a young Civil Servant, & the Crown, with it's real ale, was my offices favourite haunt at lunchtime on payday.
