Andover, St Mary's Church c.1965

More about this scene
Architect Augustus F Livesay's design is a fine example of Early Victorian Gothic. The walls are of Caen stone and squared flints, the latter a mark of quality. Unfortunately, the stone was not all laid on its natural bed and so tends to spall badly. A workman was killed when some high-level walling collapsed during building. Sydney Smirke, brother of the architect for the British Museum, was employed during completion as an additional expert.
