My family lived here in 1830s and were called Betts. I wonder if anyone was aware about a lady who married a George Betts my 3rd Gt Grandfather, her name was Catharina Nicholson and was from Italy I believe but was born in Greece. If anyone has information i would be very grateful. I know that she is buried in the local churchyard in 1885.
I noticed someone spoke on here about the Ranch. It was a road off Rotherham Baulk but did not have a road surface on it so it was more of a path.It connected Carlton to Costhorpe but the area now has an industrial estate and a residential estate and is known as Costhorpe.I remember the Deakin family living on the ranch when we were kids but cant really remember their names apart from Joe who ...see more
Hi, my husband was born and raised (until the age of 5) in a part-railway carriage on land known locally as The Ranch . I can't find any mention of these in any documents and was wondering if any body has a photo or knowledge they can share with us. Many thanks, joan Pearson
I was born in Carlton and lived there until I married in 1981, my maiden name was Fotheringham. My great grandma was Mrs Padley who owned the sweet shop on the main road, we used to visit regularly and I remember her back room still having the meat hooks in the ceiling, and if we needed the loo we had to go down into the garden and it was just a shed with a soil toilet, it was really creepy, especially in the ...see more

I lived on Hawthorne Way and went to Langold School, but only for a few months. Used to hang about with my cousin, Alan Anderson, Mo Mills and Danny Dunning to name but a few.
Alec, I remember the Cottages, and some of the families who lived there; Rush, Fretwell, Matthew, Raye, Smith and Jones.
I was born and lived in Low Street which is at the back of the shops shown; at the bottom of the area known as Wards Yard. My grandads sister, Elizabeth Moore, married a Charles Bradford. Maybe related to the grandmother of Glenda Lycett.
I was born and brought up in Worksop but Carlton holds special memories around the late 1950s and early 1960s. I bought my Austin-Healey Sprite from Joe Lacey's garage in 1959 which, as a student, was my pride and joy for many years. I also have very fond memories of the twins Suzanne and Wendy Hughes who, if I remember correctly, lived in a house set back from the Doncaster Road. I was lucky enough to ...see more
The image of Carlton Parish Church has changed very little over the years. I have a similar photograph of the church taken on my wedding day. The Church has a place in my heart and holds very great memories for me and my family. Not only were my parents married in the church (1967), but my two sisters and I were christened there as well (1967, 1968 and 1970). When it came time for us to marry, ...see more
