Built in c1538-40, Deal was equipped with three tiers of platforms for mounting long-range guns for use against shipping, and with handgun embrasures for an all-round defence capability. It is thought that Deal might well have been designed by Henry himself, as the King took more than a passing fancy to the use of artillery.

Does anyone remember this B&B, located at No.2 Gladstone Road? It was run by two guys, Bryan & Michelle, one of whom was a fabulous cook. We stayed there several times back in the 70s. Wonderful hospitality! I often wonder what happened to Bryan and Michelle.
I lived at No. 16 Cowper Road from 1968 to 1978. A really lovely house, and many happy times spent there. We bought it for £5,500 and our mortgage was £20.00 a month.
