Share your own memories of Kingston upon Hull and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

Yeah, that brings back lots of memories. Friday night/ Saturday morning was a must. The smell of fresh baked bread and bacon. Queuing only made the appetite keener.
Humberside was created from 1 April 1974 and lasted to 1 Apr 1996. Kingston-upon-Hull is Yorkshire and not Humberside. Note from the Editor: Many thanks for your comment. I do understand your frustration, however, unfortunately city and county lines and borders are constantly being redrawn, and researching the changes and altering our database of over 300,000 images has proved to be an expensive (and ...see more
Wow. I remember being unhappy living in digs and cycling up to Uni in my mini skirt. Prof Wilkinson telling me that he 'adored tall women' (he'd be sacked now) or I could have got a first! Wishing I was living in halls. Three years seeming an eternity. Why did I stick it out? What happened to everyone else? I was more successful than I could ever have imagined, so glad I got the degree, but wish I'd gone somewhere more prestigious - like Cambridge?!

He always wore his flatcap, and grew lovely roses in his front garden. Auntie Alice was amazing she was always ...see more
Yes it was Savemore, I remember air raid siren still going off regularly. Also Ideal standard lunchtime hooter where my mum worked in the cafe.

Son, Peter and wife moved from a nissen hut into a new house - they had a market garden at Jenny Brough growing sweet peas and other flowers for the market, can anyone remember them? Also my father George Jennings he and Mum managed a ...see more
The photo above, of the two Lads on the lake is of my Brother Graham and I. I can`t remember it myself but apparently, Graham tells me, he was fed up because he wasn`t allowed to drive the boat as he was too small.
We moved here in November 1949 - Mother was horrified, I thought it the most wonderful, exciting place to be. The corner room upstairs was used by the previous tenants for pigeons, racing I think. A good scrub was needed before Mum considered it clean enough to hang the washing. My brother and I shared the large billiard room, as a combined bedroom and playroom. We had two dogs, Patricia and ...see more
