I have discovered that this hotel, Hotel Atlanta, Tintagel, was owned by my 2nd cousin twice removed on my maternal side of the family circ. 1950's/1960's. Mr Cyril and Mrs Grace Ayles are my ancestors. I discovered they owned this place from their probate listing. I found a newspaper report that Grace died from a long illness, but what I cannot find is a newspaper report of how Cyril died. ...see more

I was looking through pictures on the FF website of Cornwall, especially those of Helston & Tintagel. The picture of this church stirred an embarrassing memory… From the late ‘70’s to the new century, spent many Sumner hols at these Cornish villages. In 1955 I was 11 years old, I lived in New York with my parents and my brother. My mother was from Scotland, she and my father had met when he was in medical school there. 1954 was my mother's first trip back to see her family since she had left them in July 1943.
