Immediately below St Mary's church, practically the only surviving reminder that this was the site of the earliest Chatham Dockyard is Command House, the building with the five white-framed windows. Now an inn, it was built in 1758 as the residence of the officer in charge. Note the typically 1950s coach-sprung pram.
