Nostalgic memories of Ealing's local history

Share your own memories of Ealing and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

Our school was next door to Ealing Studios. Our headmaster was Alan Sainsbury Hicks, a peppery little man who came to a sad end by drowning, I heard. When I was in form V or lower VI we had a request for a number of boys to be extras on a film in the studios. It starred Robert Donat and Adrienne Corri and I was one who was chosen. We were given very roughly made grey blazers to wear. We were ...see more
When my father, Cllr John Wood, was Mayor of Ealing in 1976 I enjoyed the treats that I got! Every weekend in the summer we would go to fetes, fayres etc and dad would open the events and my sister and I would be given some cash from him to spend on the stalls to show our support! I used to love, as a 14 year old, riding in the Daimler to and from functions... The driver was a great man and if he saw me waiting at ...see more
I started at St.Anne's in the early 40's and was evacuated with some of the girls to Baccombe Warren, Wendover, as my father was in the war and my mother was looking after his business in Bond Street, Ealing. I remember Rosemary and Monica Hough (I think the spelling of their surname may not be correct) and our neighbour's daughter in Anthony Road off the A40, Pat Desmond, was also at Wendover. My mother had asked ...see more

I was 5 years old and it was 1955. My father, William Venezia was stationed at Westdraton AFB. I went to St. Annes for the 1,2 and 3rd grade. My name was Amelia (Millie) Venezia. I used to live in Grove Place which of course is no longer there. I remember Mrs Jones fish and chip shop a couple of doors from me where you could get a bag of crackling (yum). Then round the corner in Western Road was Den the barbers, we used to go in and buy sweets and the men were always in there playing crib with matchsticks. Outside Dens when we go older (albeit only 11) you could buy ten No.6 ...see more
I was born in 1955 in Hammersmith Hospital. I grew up in Ealing first living in Florence Road and then moving to Warwick Road. I went to St.Saviours infants and Christchurch Juniors and then went to Ealing Grammar for girls; due to a very nasty car crash my school work suffered and I left at fifteen and a half and worked at Bentalls. I have so many memories of Ealing and was very pleased to find this website.
Does anyone remember Pitmans College in the Uxbridge Road? I attended there from 1957 to 1962. I have great memories of Ealing, I was born there in 1946 and one friend who I remember is Ann Freeman. I also went to Les Wilde's school of dancing with my best friend Jenny Harmer. We both won medals there. Does anyone have any recollection of any of this.
