More about this scene

Looming over the town is the tower of the town hall, clearly more than a little influenced in its design by its more prestigious neighbour at Leeds. It was built in 1895 by G A Fox, with a portico formed of six composite columns. Until recent times textile mills jostled the building. As a part of the Heavy Woollen District of Dewsbury and the Spen Valley, Morley suffered during the slump of the 1930s. Bewteen 1924 and 1930 over 46,000 jobs were lost in the woollen industry, most of them in Yorkshire.
