Prestatyn's station on the Chester and Holyhead section of the L & NWR meant that it became increasingly popular with holidaymakers, especially with those from the Liverpool area.

When the lighthouse ceased operations in 1921 the light was removed, and the tower became refreshment rooms, and subsequently a gunnery and observation station during the Second World War.
