The elegant five-bay north and south arcades are witness to this date. One of two 14th-century tomb recesses with ball-flower decoration can be seen between columns to the left.
The original core of the White Lion - to the left of the picture - is thought to date from the 15th century.
Dating from about 1912 and now the NatWest Bank, it is in Queen Anne style using grey brick with fiery red brick dressings, deep modillioned eaves and large pedimented dormers.
The chancel arch of the present church dates from the 13th century, and the tower was added in around 1390.
The Buddle estuary was tucked between high walls (left centre), dating from about 1750, below the cupola of the Victorian Guildhall.
The Post Office building dates from the 16th century.
Most of the houses are 19th-century, including the shop (dated 1881) on the corner of Ray Lane beyond the now relocated war memorial cross. It is now a private house called The Old Post Office.
There can be little doubt regarding the date.
Twice a fire has destroyed the buildings: the lone tower dates from a church built in around 1530 which caught fire in the 1850s.
A fine tomb chest in the south aisle is carved from black Catacleuse stone and dates from around 1400. The well-kept churchyard has slate tombstones and other memorials.
The Town Hall, on the left, dates from 1842; its imposing stone portico faces onto the High Street rather than the Market Square - which, as has become common in the modern age, is being used
Known as New Street since the 15th century, the oldest building extant in 1896 was probably No 29, a silversmith and jewellers, that had a rainwater head dated 1687.
To date it has never been excavated.
The chancel, with its high-pitched roof, dates from the early 13th century, though some parts of the church are thought to be 12th-century.
The present castle dates mainly from the 1860s, though the north and south-west towers are original.
In the churchyard is an ancient yew tree, reliably dated at some 2000 years of age.
The church is small, and dates from Norman times, with many later additions.
This is a splendid picture of the Blue House, architecturally one of the most important buildings in Frome, dating from 1728.
This photograph must date from the very last days of the old horse boat, because a new steam chain ferry was introduced in 1889; one of its successors still runs.
In the distance a Mini car is parked, which dates this photograph to 1959 or later.
A typical tavern on Pilling Moss, the Old Ship still has a pump in the yard embossed with the initials of the Nicholson family and dated 1782.The spire of St John's church can be seen in the background
Many houses have date plaques, and most fall into a range between 1890 and 1910.
The photograph shows two parallel late 16th-century gabled blocks with large mullion and transom windows. Some fragments of the building may date to the ownership of the Greys.
The Great Western Railway crosses in front of the tidal sands of the bay, and the very tall chimney belonged to the lead smelting works, which had already closed at this date.
