As you can see from this picture, Broad Street is anything but.
Among the market traders who used to draw the crowds were Mrs Gee, who literally sold crockery at knock down prices by shouting out the price and banging on an old tea chest.
Opened in 1906 with a length of half a mile, the pier incorporated an electric tramway - one of its cars is clearly visible in the photograph.
The yacht is typical of those developed since the 1930s for use on the Broads.
The story of how the town got its name is an unusual one.
By the time the railway arrived in Blackpool in 1846, the town was already a resort attracting several thousand visitors a year.
Many people approached their houses by grass tracks, and drew water from a well or carried buckets to a standpipe (sometimes a half-mile away); they cooked by paraffin or coal and lit their homes
