I was taken into care when i was only two years old in 1951 and came to Wheatley to live in a childrens home for a while it was called Morland house. The only memory i have is having some trouble in a swimming pool and someone fishing me out with some kind of net
i can clearly remember driving through the village of littleworth with my mum and dad, past the cricketers pub and then being hit by the stench from what i recall was some sort of sheepskin factory or something before carrying on toward wheatley where my nan and grandad lived. it would have been 1974-75 or maybe 1976. i also trying to remember where my grandad worked around there. my dad ...see more
The lady on the left is Mrs Bowen; I am the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Bowen, and mum and dad owned the shop until about 1961, I think. I have many memories of the square as it was known, here the Hunt would meet up sometime before Christmas, the hounds mingling with the horses and their riders rigged out in crimson...made an awful din. The lady on the right of this picture, taken outside Bowens shop (later Ferrridges) at the bottom of Friday Lane in Wheatley, is my mother Patricia Hanks. I don't know who the lady is that she is talking to. Contributed by Lucille Goodwin
