Winster, The Valley c.1960

More about this scene
The unchanging beauty of the Winster Valley, with its meadows, rolling hillsides, dry stone walls and scattered dwellings, is entirely typical of the soft countryside of the southern fringe of the Lake District. The underlying Silurian geology produces a landscape contrasting sharply with the dramatic, craggy nature of the central mountains.
