For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). The farmer's name was Newton Williams, a bit of a character from all accounts. My friend Bob, who was one of the Paget ...see more

My mother lived at Morris Ave, Penrhiwceiber but I was born in 1942 at The Lady Aberdare hospital Mountain Ash. My mother walked through the snow to get to the hospital, the matron told her she was foolish doing that because the baby (me) could have been born in the snow. My father, an Irishman, was away fighting the Germans so he couldn't help. My mothers family, Phillips by name, have a long ...see more
Hi, I remember Willis's shop very well, my mother shopped there every day, and remember the Persian cat they had named Ration. I lived next door to Rosie's cafe and was friends with all the family. I also played over the pit, and also moved to the Midlands - 'Stoke on Trent'. I love sharing these memories, I went 'home' last year... it was great. We intend to visit again this year. Regards Rita.
Alfred Ernest and his wife, Violet Emily, lived at 65 Trefelin Street, Penrhiwceiber, and had children there. They were probably members of the Salvation Army - does anyone have information on the family and of the Salvation Army there please?
