This had been a truly village occasion, one which the Stanleys attended but did not control.
Thanks to the Trust, the Edge is now better cared for and understood than ever before and they have proved worthy successor custodians to the Stanleys.
Beside the A34 in Nether Alderley is the grave of the third Lord Stanley, buried apart from the rest of his relations as he was a Muslim.
