Memory of Amersham College Woodside Road
From my home in Wendover, I was a pupil at Amersham College during those difficult times during 1944 to 1949.

My name is Philip Bradshaw & I was born in Lexham Gardens, Amersham in 1949. My Mum, Jean Emily Bradshaw (nee Cook) was also born in the same house. Her father, Edwin or Edward, was a printer & a lay minister for the Methodist Church & is buried, with my grandmother, at the rear of the Methodist church in"old" Amersham.

My name is Philip Hitchcock. I attended Amersham College 1956 to 1958. It was owned by Mr Holland (Boss). Another teacher was Mr Fuchs (Fred) an Austrian. Fred taught German, Maths, Science, and took charge of us at cricket. However I am not sure he knew the rules of the game! Boss attempted to teach the rest of the subjects. My dad used to work for Henry Kingham and Sons of Watford, and I used to go with him when delivering to the Kingham shop in Amersham. His round would start at Little Chalfont, out to Amersham and the on to Chesham. I have found the shop in Little Chalfont, and on a visit yesterday, 16th September 2017, I was casting my memory back to the middle 50's as to where the shop was/used to be. Does anyone of the older generation ( middle 70's) remember the shop?
I used to be so excited about the street fair every September. It ran the entire length of Old Amersham High Street. I still have a precious photo of me, along with two little monkeys, which was taken at the fair. Possibly in about 1961. My parents were married at St Mary's church in 1940, the same year my grandfather died. He was buried in the churchyard. My grandmother is also buried there, as is my dear mother. Does ...see more
Anyone out there who was a pupil or teacher at this School 1966 through 1971? I was, for my sins, Head of Music during these years and have memories of such staff names as Andy Thompson (history), Denis Holman (Head), Neil Bibby, Steve Hennig, Bill Prickett (caretaker), Austin Matthews (crafts), Graham Hoare (Maths), Betty Perfect (School Secretary). I am still in touch with George Bell and his wife Sue every Christmas - it would be great to hear from anyone else who may remember me!!

Amersham - we had such a wonderful time with you, my sister, my two cousins and I. We were young, so we played, we swam, we chatted. We're all grown up now, with children of our own - I wonder if we could get back to you - would we be young again? 1958 - the year my sister was born. My parents were in Amersham that year. They're gone now, but you're still here. I'm very glad.
