More about this scene
This now lost view looks from Market Street towards Silver Street: the timber-framed building on the left has been replaced by a 1970s building. To the right now is the east side of the vast Friars Square shopping centre. This is a brash and cheerily post-modern early 1990s reworking of a crudely brutalist 1960s concrete shopping precinct that had swept away much of the west side of the Market Square. The Dark Lantern beyond survives, and is a reminder of the maze of alleys in this area of market encroachment.
