The park was the scene of a spectacular firework display in 1881, held to celebrate the town's jubilee.
In the foreground is a poster advertising the Royal Jubilee Exhibition, which was opened by the Prince of Wales and ran from May to October 1887.
These gardens opened on 21 June 1887 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
The white building on the left is Jubilee Cottages, built in 1935.
