Weybridge, The Congregational Church c.1955

More about this scene
The dominant building opposite the shops in Queen's Road was the Congregational church, which was built in 1864/65. It was designed to hold 350 people, and was equipped with a Willis pipe organ, which was played by its builder at the opening service. Behind the church was a building used as a lecture hall, Sunday School and, from 1871, the Weybridge British School. A gallery was added to the church in 1886 because of the need for more pews. In 1972 the Congregational Church in England and Wales joined with the Presbyterian Church of England to form the United Reformed Church, which it remains; this church is the only place of worship in this upper part of Weybridge.
