The houses in South Street become smaller in scale than in the other three streets meeting at the central Market Cross.
The buildings to the right of the gateway, which led in from the Market Place, were part of the District Council offices.
Originally a part of the Cardigan Fields estate, Headingley was put on the market in 1888 and purchased by the Leeds cricket and football clubs in January 1889.

This is the extremely busy A15 main road heading north to Folkingham, Lincoln and eventually the Humber Bridge and south (the way we are facing) to Market Deeping and Peterborough.
It still shows many of the signs of a country village, and is complete with its Market Square, as our photograph shows. Longridge takes its name from being at the end of Longridge Fell.

The setting for the farm, the surrounding countryside and the nearby railway are all faithfully recreated in 'The Fox' while the nearby market town is surely Newbury.
During the Middle Ages, the town's prosperity grew with the woollen industry, and it became an important yarn market.
The Market Square is at the busy cross-roads in the centre of this delightful small town.
The north side of the Market Place has seen many recent changes: The Marquis of Granby, partly dating from 1695, was restored in 1999 and the paint removed from its stonework.
The large building is the Market Cross and Theatre, built by the Adam brothers in 1774-80. To the left the shops include Hepworth's, Home and Colonial, and International Stores.
Here we glimpse the High Street through the arches of the Market Hall, which was built in 1627 at the expense of Sir Baptist Hicks.
