My great grandad built these houses. My nan lived next door to the sweet shop always remember the glass sweet counter. lovely photo
I remember when the park looked like this the slide was so big. The merry go round and the horse they should put it all back like it used to be. Always thought the house named mothers garden looked black and creepy still looks like noone lives there would be nice to live there though and paint it white.

My Family moved in to N0 9 East Cliff in 1960, we moved from an old cottage across the beach where I was born in 1955. The cottage was demolished & some Garages were built in the place of the two cottages. Many people may remember Clifford Samways ran a successful fresh fish business from those garages. Loved the counters in Salts and the fact that I could put things "on account" My mother was born in the jewelers/pawnbrokers shop just a couple of doors away from Salts. A member of the Dinnis family which has only recently given up the unequal fight
wonderful memories of growing up in tooting. I was born in 1939 and can vaguely remember the end of the war. I happened to just drop on this site by accident and read the short story by Sally Pethybridge, I must say Sally I remember everything you have written. A few years ago I wrote a small book which is titled, " How Things Have Changed" and it is my memory about living in my home village of Kettleshulme. When I went to the Coatbridge Palais there was also a band called the Reigning Monarchs, which there around the same time as the Drum Beats, the Crusaders. I am not sure of the dates they all played in the Coatbridge Palais. Tuesday night Sammy Lee and his band from Bellshill played in the Whifflet Rosehall.
I remember as a nine year old first moving to Bulwell. I had moved from out of the countryside from Girton the other side of Newark. My first encounter was with a youth on a bike just outside of our new home who proceeded to punch me in the face because I spoke posh. After that it was all down hill. As children in the 60s we used to be taken by our grandparents to Abinger Hammer sometimes on Sunday afternoons. Even if we'd been playing on the green and messing about in the stream we had to look after our Sunday best in order to have tea later at Grimes' Kitchen. My father Charlie Nutt and his colleagues ran The Fowey Radio company which gradually set up small branches in several Cornish towns, one of these was St. Blazey. I think problems with staffing etc arose as a result of the Second World War after 1939 and eventually only two Fowey Radio shops remained - one at Fowey, where I lived until I was 18, and the other at Truro. I too have memories of Castleton. When I was 16 (in 1963) my family moved to Milnrow Road in Rochdale, and so I was only about 3 or 4 miles from where my cousins the Thompson family (Derek, Joyce and Geoff) lived in Castleton. I'm writing about my memories of Cronkeyshaw School. It was situated to the north of Rochdale Town Centre in the corner of a large open common grassland area, Cronkeyshaw Common, opposite Falinge Park. I have many happy memories of living in Moreton. We lived in Silverburn Avenue right in the heart of the village, I went to Lingham Lane infants school, then on to the primary where I remember Mr Stockdale being my favourite teacher. Later I went to the secondary modern in Upton road. My dad was head barman at the Coach & Horses pub. We spent every summer down on Moreton shore or just playing round the village. It was a lovely place to grow up in and it was always safe. Very happy times.
In 1982 we moved into the farm house. I was 11 and had come from a new house in Liss so this was a dream come true ! The oast houses next door hadn't been converted then and we had wild time as children making dens there. Although my brothers martin n david have moved away am still here back at home helping mum with dad.Know 2 friends hav left this world cherly myers & my best friend leigh staniforth miss him greatly but also losing last remaining old school once there gone say goodbye to the village someone will extend it & ruin it that will be a sad day only hope i'm not around to see it.
I lived on Sutton flats from 1965 until 1975. lived in Crompton house, it was a good place to grow up, safe everyone knew each other. I can remember playing in the Rocket and Mickey Mouse parks, there was a playground in the middle of the estate that i also played in, i think we called it The swings. My mother Edna Long was born in Zeals in 1936 the youngest of seven born at westfield house which is no longer there and brought up in chapel lane she attended the village school and worked at the dairy in bourton she was married to my father in the church in 1958 where my grandad Harry Long is is layed to rest my grand mother louise Long moved from the village around 1960 and moved to Swanage to be closer to her other daughter Brenda
I remember living in Bells Close from early 70 to mid 80s, in fact I delivered papers to Bells Close and Sugley from the paper shop that used to be along from the new Lemington Centre, on the block that had the butchers! This a request on behalf of my daughter and her partner. They are renovating a house in Old Road West which they think is Victorian. I have found the occupants there in the 1901 Census but not in the 1891. It is possible that the houses there were built in the 1890s. Is there anyone who might know more...perhaps memories passed down through families.
I am trying to research for my Father who is 90 years old. Does anybody remember or have any details of a FARM called LITTLE CANNON'S somewhere in Parndon. My granfather allan thomas morris was born in 1900 in llanrhaider ym mochnant his parents were Richard morris born in 1875 his mother Margaret morris nee kynaston was born around 1877,my granfather is buried at st garmons on mynned mawer as is his father , we do know from the 1911 that they were living at tynewydd wernlas llangedwyn nr oswestry can any one tell me where this is and if anyone related to this family still live in the area.
I am trying to trace a family the name i have been given is David Ramsdon my father is Edward Hall he suffers with Dementia but during a chat he recalls been evacuated to Hogsthorpe and staying with this man and his wife. I live in Australia but my great grandparents lived at 19 Leopold Rd Willesden. Apparently they were a railway family - my grandfather was Charles Holliss - his dad was John Holliss - other kids in the family were Annie George William Eric. It looks to me, that this view is of Hayters shop on the corner of Church road and The Park. We lads would go in to buy sweets and stuff. The Barn Hall is opposite.
Some of my happiest childhood memories are of the holidays the family spent at Withernsea, staying at my Grandmothers caravan. Her name was Clara Peat and my first visit would have been over 60 years ago. I was born in Herts Hill. Holly Hall 64 years ago in a house on the main road next door but one to the Doctors, the doctors name was Dr. McCormack. Opposite was a pub called The Stag. My father James Tregellis, , was evacuated to Malmesbury during the second world war , he had three billets in the town,and has many stories of the time he was in Malmesbury which I have turned into a short film script,and is intended to be shot very shortly. the third and final billet was at a Mr & Mrs Stewert,who wanted to adopt my father and take him to America. Teignmouth was a very different place then. You could use 2p's to go on the rides which used to be dotted a long the seafront, also there wre lots of boat trips you could go on. Even the train fare was cheaper, there used to be a row of houses by the train station before they built the Co-Op carpark.

I went to live in Findern in 1967,my first home after getting married in Crewe in Cheshire. My then husband and I had got jobs at Rolls Royce in Derby. I have very fond memories of the village then. Wonderful times spent in Brackenwood (Rolly polly) Park Iremember the Beautiful Building in the picture. We lived on the estate,so mum would have to go there occassionaly and would take me as I was only a little tot then. I remember that shoe shop it was just opposite the chequers pub and I went there as a child. I think that it was the Carlton Cafe before it was a show shop where my mum had her wedding reception.
I would just like to point out that I attended this school from 1961 to 1965 and it was a grammar school and not a secondary school as stated.

Mr Father Charles Edwin Gillmore was born in Sidcup in 1942. He lived at home with his brother David Gillmore and sister Maureen Clarke also their Mother Florence Ada Gillmore ( Nee Eustace ) at 22 Alma road Sidcup, just down the road from Waring park. i went to school with one of the daughters who lived in this house she said it was very creepy. last year 2013 my son attended closeburn nursery with a little girl whos family are now living there and they said there are not so much sightings now but they do continue to hear and feel things particularly in the upstairs of the house.
I moved to Torbay in 1962 to work at Gowman Easterbrook, Solicitors in Paignton. During this time I made many friends, including Tony Harper who, with Alan Beeson, myself and others, founded Dunkeswell Kart Club which is still going. i started school at Nork in 1956 but can't find the school anywhere . we lived in Parsonsfield Road and walked through alleyways to the school headed towards Drift bridge has anybody any information please. Thank you. Iremember the school had an outdoor swimming pool.

I grew up in Tillard St. Kirkdale. I remember we always had to use the back door when we left the house as kids, so the neighbours would not see we had no lino in the hall. My mother is Shelagh Bailey by marriage , her father was Jesse Bawler from Fordgate and he was part of a very large family. One of his brothers was Harry Bawler who had a daughter Betty. My grandma is recorded on the 1911 census as living at beggars pound with her mother and father and 7 siblings. They were farm labourers. Can anyone shed any light on the life she may have led whilst living here. Her name was Ethel maud jones.

Although we lived in Spotland, our family Doctor was a Doctor Gordon a brusque Scot whom I was Little afraid of. His surgery was at the top left side of Drake street. Just after the war. They did house calls in those days. The surgery was filled with round backed cane chairs, and we would move along from seat to seat until it was our turn.
I was born in York.. lots of family there still. Amazing place. my uncle Charlie used to work in the butchers shop there.. many yrs ago.. York not like it used to be.. Family name Walkers... and Hoyle.. i was adopted so don't know much about the latter family.
My granddfather and great grandfather were both born in Little Waltham. My great grandfather was Ezra Brown who married Martha Rayment in 1881. I would dearly love to contact any descendants of these families. The Rayments ran the Windmill Inn at one stage. Ezra Brown was one of 11 children who were born and lived at The Bell Inn. I was born in Marcet Road in 1959 and attended West Hill Primary School. I failed my 11 plus and went the Dartford West but moved in the first year to Dartford Technical High School in Willmington. Shortly after my family moved to Heathview Crescent. I left Dartford in 1980 when I joined the RN. My parents and one set of grand parents are buried in East Hill Cemetry. My siblings also no longer live in Dartford.
