Caption For Farnborough, Old Parish Church 1897

Easily the oldest building in Farnborough, the parish church of St Peter dates from about 1200, although there is evidence to suggest a Saxon church may have occupied the site before

Caption For Carperby, The Village And Cross 1909

Caption For Hitchin, The Sun Hotel C1965

Otherwise, there is little but the parked cars to give a clue to the date of this photograph. The timber-framed buildings, on the left, are believed to date from the 16th century.

Caption For Bindon Abbey, The Gateway 1894

Bindon Abbey was the location of an important Cistercian monastery and dates back to 1172. Little remains of the original building; this neo-gothic gatehouse dates back only to the 1790s.

Although the facade has a date in the 1680s, internal timbers in this building date from the 1400s.

The red sandstone tower dates from the 15th century, and may itself have been a rebuild on the base of an earlier structure.

The buildings on the right were once part of Middle Farm and date back to Tudor times.

Caption For Lymm, Arley Hall 1897
